Chelsea can sign Cuadrado if they can pay his full money, says his coach Montella

Chelsea will have to pay Juan Cuadrado's €35 million release clause if they want to prise the Colombian winger from Fiorentina in the January transfer window, boss Vincenzo Montella has confirmed.

Speculation is mounting that the Premier League leaders are looking to bolster their creative options by signing the 26-year-old while the out-of-favour Mohamed Salah moves closer to joining Roma on loan.

Montella insists he does not want to lose one of his prized assets mid-season but admits he will be powerless to prevent Cuadrado leaving if Chelsea activate his clause before the close of the winter window.

“The issue around Cuadrado is very simple: he has a buy-out clause, which was written into his contract along with the club,” Montella told reporters.

“If a team comes along and pays it, and the player wants to leave, then he can go. This clause expires during the last few days of the transfer window, but as far as we are concerned the player is not for sale.”
