The white fish is one of the common sport fish. This fish uses the
colder parts of the lake in the summer season. The feeding activities of
the white fish also become bit sluggish in this season and this is the
time when you have to offer the bait to the fish in quite different
manner. Either sonar or topographic maps help you to hunt the deep holes
found in many lakes. Once you reach above one of these holes, you can
check to see if the white fish are there. Here the use of sonar is a
great choice for exploring the holes because sonar is the easiest and
quickest way to do this. Having GPS is also one of the better options
for marking these spots for your future fishing trips. After you spot
the fish near the bottom in the hole you must be sure that the specie is
walleye, trout or whitefish as these are the three most common sport
fish use the colder parts of the lake in the summer.
Chumming is
one of the ways of tackling the white fish. Chum will attract the fish
for as long as you keep them on the bottom where you would like to fish.
Salted minnows are also a good option if they are permitted on the lake
you are fishing.
The most comfortable and easiest way is a
bottom-baiter to get the gait to the bottom without it spreading over a
large area. You can keep one out of the container by placing a weight in
the spout of the container. Certainly after placing a large snap swivel
on the outside of the spout, you can hook this to the line you use to
send it down with. Always throw a line to the bottom first with a
good-sized weight so it will go directly down below your boat.
Place
the bait in the container and hook the snap to the line. Keep the
container in the water with lot of care and let it fill gradually.
Fixing the hook to the container with a small piece of wire and let the
container fall freely until it hits bottom. When you feel and detect
that the weight of the bottom baiter hit the bottom begin to retrieve
the line with the container attached. As the container returns in the
water all the bait will slide out and sturdy directly under your boat,
unless you have a strong current in witch case you should bait up
current.
The live minnow are the most familiar baits for catching
the white fish. First of all attempt these minnows if they are not
prohibited in the lake you are on for catching the white fish. Placed
the hook from the underside of the minnow in a way that it facing back
towards the tail and then just put the minnow in the water and see the
action it creates as it tries to swim. You can use a two way spreader
for this purpose and will let it rest on bottom. Moreover a small float
can be used to notice a bite, or you can merely let the line sit slack
for a moment and then lift lightly. A bite will be noticed as soon as
lifting and the weight of a fish will be felt. White fish contain a
thick upper lip and it will grab a hook well if not too much force is
applied on the retrieval. The white fish are also famous because of
their soft bite.

The
use of the worms can be beneficial too, however trying to inject the
small amount of the air into the worm to keep it about an inch or so off
bottom. Another favorite of the white fish are the white grubs. These
are also most liked by the white fish.
If you make a selection of
spoon for catching the white fish then just letting the line out until
the spoon is on bottom. At this time reel in just enough line so that
you can feel the weight of the spoon and initiate a slow jigging motion.
Let the spoon strike the bottom on the down stroke and lift about six
inches off bottom on the upstroke. This stimulates the spoon to get to
the bottom slightly, replicating the look of feeding baitfish. This will
cause the white fish to feed on the bait fish consequently. You can
utilize the spoon as it is or tipped it with a live minnow or a part of a
minnow.
